Milam Museum hosting �Old Santa Fe�

CAMERON - The Milam County Historical Museum would like to invites the community to an
evening exploring �Old Sante Fe Town� at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the museum in
downtown Cameron.
Jackie Thornton, Milam County Historical Commission member, said the speaker will be
Gene Mitchan, a long time resident of Milam County.
�His topic will be the history of Cameron�s Old Sante Fe Town, also known as �Dutch
Town�,� she said. �After his presentation, questions will be answered and refreshments
will be served.�
The �Dutch Town� area has recently received a Texas Historical Marker for the Wied
Store and plans include additional markers for the area.
�Its location on the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail will have a
significant impact on the area.,� Thornton said.
Mitchan will talk about the area, the businesses and the daily life of the people who
worked there, including his own family.
Thornton said A DVD will be available at the museum after the presentation.
�This is the first in a series of events the museum is planning to introduce the
citizens of Milam County and the surrounding area to the museum and to the history of
Milam County,� she said.
The recently renovated museum is located at 112 West 1st Street across from the Milam
County Courthouse.
