Moses D. Arledge
# 9 - Sheriff Moses D. Arledge was elected on August 5, 1850 and served until August 2,
1852.
He was born in Edgefield, South Carolina on August 27, 1820.
Arledge married Elizabeth Prewett (Gardner?) (b. Feb. 14, 1833, d. Jan. 8, 1914) in
Milam County in 1850.
He served during the Civil War as a member of the 27th Brigade, Texas State Troopers,
Company M. He was commissioned on August 21, 1861 under Captain R. McCulloch. He
attained the rank of 4th Sergeant.
He died at the age of 89 in Round Rock, Williamson County, Texas on July 7, 1910 and is
buried at the Old Round Rock Cemetery.
A memorial stone was recently placed at his grave showing his service to the Confederate
States.
He and his wife had nine children: Eliza Jane (b.abt 1849), William A. (b. 1851), Sarah
(b.1853), Martin Y. (b. Oct. 8, 1857, d. Mar. 15, 1892), Christian Lafayette (b. 1864),
Emma W. (b. 1866), Anna C. (b. Jun. 1867, d. Jan. 1901), Ida May (b. 1873), and Alice
Lou (b. 1874, d. Mar. 27, 1948.
