Leroy Broadus
#36 - Sheriff Leroy Broadus was born on August 17, 1934 in Hearne, Robertson County,
Texas.
After four years in the United States Air Force, he entered the Highway Patrol Academy
in Austin and upon completion, was assigned to LaMarque, Texas as his first duty
station. He served there for four years before transferring to Milam County.
He was a State Trooper in Milam County for 17 years before running for Sheriff in 1976.
Broadus was elected on November 2, 1976, re-elected November 4, 1980, November 6, 1984,
November 8, 1988, November 3, 1992.
Broadus married Patricia Raines and they had one son and a daughter.
Sheriff Broadus died while in office on April 13, 1995 after a year long battle with
cancer.
Sheriff Broadus served as Sheriff of Milam County for 18 years, 3 months and 13 days.
